The SID is eager to engage residents and fellows in the programming
and administration of the organization. The following are some of the
opportunities available to residents and fellows.
SIDES (SID Education for Students)
The SIDES Program provides high school students the opportunity to
hear new scientific work firsthand and to speak on a one-to-one
basis with the people involved in the research. They are given
personal accounts of the training required as well as the
difficulties and delights of scientific research. The program is
intended to expose them to the process of dissemination of
scientific information. Area teachers and students meet in the
morning with Dr. Ken Kraemer, Chairman, several SID members,
residents and medical students. There is brief discussion before
teachers and students attend a plenary lecture and then regroup for
further discussion. Members relate their varied paths and life
experiences leading to medical and graduate school. During lunch,
students and teachers have the opportunity to interface with SID
members in a more intimate setting. Generally, discussion centers on
viewing science as a possible career choice for the students and
shows them that medical research can be exciting and, at the same
time, educational and fulfilling. After lunch, several SID members
escort the students and teachers to the poster hall, where they have
the opportunity to speak with the poster presenters about their
research studies. The program concludes at 3:00 p.m. with a wrap-up
session. For more information about SIDES,

Board of Directors Resident/Fellow Representatives

year to serve for two years. All members of the Board of Directors
are elected at the Annual Meeting.
Committee on Resident Fellow Programs
One new Resident/Fellow committee member is appointed on an annual
basis and serves for two years. This committee is responsible for
formulating and implementing any and all programs designed to
encourage and promote an interest in investigative dermatology among
residents and fellows.
Committee on Albert M. Kligman Fellowships
The Kligman Foundation supports travel for young investigators to
attend the annual meeting of the SID. This committee selects the
awardees as well as periodically reviews the guidelines for
selection. One new Resident/Fellow committee member is appointed
every two years.
