Postdoctoral Scientist in Ward Lab, CWRU
Multiple postdoctoral scientist opportunities are available immediately in the Ward Lab and projects led by Dr. Ward within the NIH P50 Psoriasis Center for Research Translation (CORT) at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Nicole Ward is a nationally recognized translational psoriatic disease research scientist and Principal Investigator of an NIH-funded laboratory and leading expert in preclinical mouse models of psoriatic disease. This is an outstanding opportunity for highly motivated individuals with strong organizational and bench skills. The postdoctoral scientists will work independently on research projects under the supervision of the principal investigator.
The Ward lab is interested in determining the pathogenesis of psoriasis and psoriasis-related comorbidities including arthritis, cardiovascular disease, inflammatory bowel disease and depression. Contributions of the microbiome to disease pathogenesis are also currently being studied. IL17C-IL17R and downstream signaling are another area of investigation.
To investigate skin inflammation, cytokine signaling, and host-microbe interactions, we study novel psoriasis mouse models generated in the lab combined with knockout back cross and bone marrow transplant approaches, and use flow cytometry, tissue analyses, protein and RNA assays, bulk and single cell RNA-Sequencing, CyToF, bioinformatics and in vitro experimental assays to better understand the pathogenesis of disease.
The candidate should have experience working with animal models of inflammation, technical expertise in biochemistry and molecular biology, transcriptomic data analyses, as well as a willingness to learn to new techniques. Experience with flow cytometry and working with and engineering novel mouse models of disease is desired. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and reports, and to regularly present their findings at Center meetings, lab meetings, and national/international symposia. Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in a relevant area of biomedical sciences, a strong record of productivity with evidence of first author publications, and excellent communication skills. Candidates with prior experience in cardiovascular research and inflammatory bowel disease using mouse models will be given priority. Applicants with additional qualifications/experience in Neuroscience are highly encouraged to apply.
